Office of Public Recollection

Citizen Services

The Bureau provides four public services and one appeal channel. Each produces a document. None requires an account, a legal name, an address, or any payment. Most filers are not interviewed.

Available services

Report a difference between your recollection and the Current Approved Past. Produces a provisional classification and a Receipt of Unverified Prior Event.

Three minutes. No interview in most cases.

  • Verify the Official Record

Check whether an event, person, date, or concept remains approved under Revision 12.4.

Immediate result. Certain queries return a terminology correction.

The decision has already been issued.

Before you file

Nothing you enter on this site is transmitted anywhere. These services run entirely in your browser. There is no server that receives a submission, no database, and no account. Receipts and certificates are generated locally and encoded into the page address so that the same link reproduces the same document.

Do not enter a Social Security number, financial account, password, precise home address, government identification, or any other sensitive information. No service asks for these and none of them is required.

What happens after a filing

Following a report, the Bureau may:

  1. Issue a Receipt of Unverified Prior Event.
  2. Recommend voluntary recollection alignment.
  3. Request copies of documents you already hold.
  4. Determine that the event occurred as scheduled.
  5. Consolidate your report with a prior filing.
  6. Close the matter before opening it.

A receipt is not evidence of acceptance. It is evidence that a filing was received, which the Bureau treats as a separate matter from whether it was accepted.
